Get your brakes checked – what’s stopping you?

With the steep ups and downs of BC’s roads and highways, good brakes are an absolute must. They’re the most important safety mechanism in your vehicle – and should be checked on a regular basis for wear and tear, and to ensure they’re functioning properly.

When you hit the brakes, you’re essentially causing a brake pad to push or clamp against a spinning metal drum or disc inside your wheels. These pads gradually wear down from use and need to be replaced. How often can depend on different factors like driving habits, load, terrain, and traffic conditions.

It’s also important to check that other components of the braking system are in good working order – like the calipers that push the brake pad against the disc, and the brake lines and hoses that carry brake fluid through the system. Air or low fluid in these lines can result in partial or total brake failure. And the discs or drums can also become grooved or warped over time due in part to the heat built up from braking.

You should have your brakes and all the components inspected by your Toyota BC Dealer according to the recommended schedule in your Owner’s Manual. If they squeal, pull, shake or shudder when braking, have your local Toyota BC Dealer inspect them immediately.

Toyota Genuine Brake Components protect you and your Toyota, and they’re specifically designed for balanced braking in all weather conditions.
